Google Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL have been announced at Google’s I/O 2019 keynote address. The Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL smartphones are more affordable Pixel offerings, meant to better compete in the premium smartphone market space that Google admittedly struggled in this past quarter. Taking on mid-range premium smartphones from Apple and Samsung, the Pixel 3a duo offers Pixel-specific apps and services, including the company’s famed photography software, on cheaper hardware compared to the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL flagships that were launched last year.
The Pixel 3a comes with a price tag of Rs 39,999 and Pixel 3a Xl is priced at Rs 44,999. In India, both the device will be available from May 15. Both smartphones will be offered only in 4GB RAM/ 64GB storage variants. The Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL release date in India is May 15, with the smartphones going up for registrations from 12:30 pm IST on Wednesday, May 8 via Flipkart. The Google smartphones have been launched in three color variants: Clearly White, Just Black, and Purplish, with only the first two sets to make their way to India. Buyers in India will also get a free 3-month YouTube Music Premium subscription, if they activate a Pixel 3a smartphone before September 30.
The Google Pixel 3a XL features a 6.0-inch Full HD+ OLED display with a screen resolution of 2,160 x 1080 pixels along with 402ppi pixel density, 18:9 aspect ratio. The Pixel 3a features a 5.6-inch Full HD+ display. Both the models feature Always-On mode along with 100,000:1 contrast ratio along with white point D67.
Both the device is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 670 SoC and Adreno 615 GPU. The phones are backed by a 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. The company has also added Active Edge feature along with fingerprint sensor at the back panel and stereo speakers at the base.
Talking about the camera which has always been the hot factor, the Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL equips 12.2-megapixel rear camera with 1.4-micron pixel size, autofocus with dual pixel phase detection, optical and electronic image stabilization, f/1.8 aperture and LED flash. For the front, there is an 8-megapixel selfie shooter with 1.12-micron pixel size, f/2.0 aperture, and 84-degree viewing angle. Retaining a single camera setup as seen on the Pixel 3 flagships, the Pixel 3a duo both offer the Night Sight low-light photography feature, however, as well as HDR+, Portrait Mode, Super Res Zoom, and Top Shot.
The Pixel 3a is backed by a 3000mAh battery, while the Pixel 3a XL is equipped with a 3700mAh battery. The models are loaded with USB Type C port and it will support 18 W fast charging. The phones run on Android 9.0 Pie and the company has promised that users will get three years of major updates on the Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL
